Pickleball gifts: what to buy a pickleball player
Safe paddle picks for a gift, when a gift card is the better call, how paddle personalization works at JustPaddles, and smaller gifts from balls to bags.
Reviewed Oct 20, 2026
Buying a paddle for someone else is harder than buying one for yourself, because the things that matter most (how heavy it feels, how long the handle is, whether they like a soft or a poppy core) are personal. The good news is that a few specs make a paddle a safe bet for almost anyone, and the picks below all have them.
If you don't know what they play with, or they are particular about gear, skip to the gift card and smaller-gift sections. A well-chosen set of balls or a good bag is a better present than the wrong paddle.
Pick a forgiving all-rounder, not a specialist. That means a thick core (15 to 16mm), which absorbs pace and makes the soft game easier; a standard, hybrid or widebody shape rather than a long, narrow elongated one; and a USA Pickleball approval, so it is legal if they ever play a sanctioned event.
The picks on this page are filtered on exactly those specs, are under $200, and were in stock on the brand's own site when we last checked them. Each card shows the lowest current price we found and the date we checked it.
Serious players often have strong opinions about weight, grip size and core thickness. If that sounds like your recipient, let them choose. A JustPaddles gift card can be any amount from $5 to $750 and is sent by email with an optional personal message. JustPaddles says it can also be spent at its sister stores JustBats and JustGloves.
Two things to know from JustPaddles' own terms: discounts can't be applied to gift card purchases, and buying a gift card doesn't earn rewards credit.
JustPaddles offers personalization on eligible paddles: a decal on the paddle's end cap with a name, a team logo or another image. It is a decal rather than engraving, and only paddles JustPaddles marks as eligible can take one, because end caps vary in size and surface.
JustPaddles' rules exclude trademarked material, including professional and college team logos and celebrity names, and it says a personalized order ships on the same schedule as any other. It does not list the price on its FAQ page, so check it on the product page before you order.
Balls are consumable, so a good pack is never wasted. Outdoor balls crack over time and most players go through them faster than they expect; see our ball guide for tournament-grade and recreational options.
A bag with a paddle sleeve and a shoe compartment is the other easy win, especially for someone who has been carrying a paddle loose in a tote. Our bag picks cover slings, backpacks and totes. Court shoes are a bigger gift but a personal one: only buy them if you know the size and whether they play indoors or out. Our shoe guide explains the difference.
Chosen from the database by the criteria above. Every spec was checked against the manufacturer on the date shown on each card.

Every player goes through balls. All of these are USA Pickleball approved; outdoor balls suit most play.

Selkirk
A seamless rotomolded 38-hole outdoor ball backed by Selkirk's one-year no-crack warranty, the only ball in the database with a warranty.

Franklin
The 40-hole outdoor ball used at the US Open Pickleball Championships: polyethylene, USA Pickleball approved, and the most widely stocked outdoor ball in the country.

Vulcan
The official ball of the PPA Tour and Major League Pickleball: a 40-hole outdoor ball built for a fast, stiff, spin-friendly game.

ONIX
ONIX's seam-welded indoor ball with a larger hole pattern and lower bounce for gym floors, approved for indoor tournament play.
A sling or a small backpack beats carrying a paddle loose in a tote.

Franklin
Franklin's official US Open sling: room for up to six paddles and a sleeve of balls, a felt-lined phone pocket, a bottle sleeve and a built-in fence hook, under $40.

ONIX
A 20 × 13.5 × 7 inch polyester sling with three zippered pockets, including a padded paddle compartment, a small valuables pocket and an outer bottle pocket.

Selkirk
A compact 13 × 5 × 16 inch backpack that fits up to six paddles or a couple of paddles plus balls and a layer, with a 15-inch laptop sleeve and a mesh bottle pocket.
