Best pickleball paddles under $150

The sweet spot of the market: premium construction without the flagship price, and where most intermediate players should shop.

Reviewed Sep 16, 2026

Between $100 and $150 you get everything that actually determines how a paddle plays, and very little of what only determines how it is marketed. Raw carbon faces, properly built 14mm and 16mm cores, long handles, and increasingly the foam-injected edges that used to be reserved for flagships.

If you play two or more times a week and you are past your first paddle, this is the bracket to buy from.

Decide thickness first

At this price the meaningful fork is 14mm versus 16mm, and several brands sell both versions of the same paddle so the rest of the specification stays constant.

Choose 16mm if your losses come from popping up resets, hitting drops long, or being handcuffed by drives. Choose 14mm if your losses come from drives being blocked back and losing hands battles at the net. Our 14mm vs 16mm guide explains the mechanism behind that split.

Then shape, then handle

Hybrid shapes are the safest default. Elongated adds reach and leverage for singles and drive-heavy play; standard and widebody add forgiveness.

Handle length is not a preference if you hit two-handed backhands, it is a requirement. Look for 5.5 inches or more.

What $150 does not buy

It does not buy a meaningfully better face. Raw carbon is raw carbon, and the gap between a $130 raw carbon paddle and a $250 one is in construction, consistency and balance rather than surface grip.

It also does not buy a guarantee of tournament legality on its own. Check the approved list if you compete, and check it again if the manufacturer revises the model, because certification applies to a specific configuration.

Common questions

Is a $150 paddle better than a $250 paddle?
Not usually in ways a club player can feel. Above roughly $150 you are paying for construction refinements, published performance data and balance tuning rather than a different class of face or core.
What is the best all-round paddle under $150?
A 16mm raw carbon paddle in a hybrid shape with a 5.5 inch handle. That combination suits more players than any other, which is why several brands build almost exactly the same thing at this price.
Should I buy 14mm or 16mm?
16mm if you lose more points on soft shots such as resets and drops. 14mm if you lose more points in fast exchanges at the net, where the extra pop helps you counter.
