A block is a reset hit from the kitchen line against a hard drive. It is a volley with no swing: you simply place the paddle in the ball's path with a soft grip so it drops into the kitchen.
Blocks work because a driven ball has plenty of energy already. Add none of your own.
Key cues
- 1Paddle out in front, slightly open

- 3Absorb with the legs and grip
- 4Direct toward the opponent's feet or the middle
Common mistakes
- Swinging at the ball and sending it long
- Backing up off the line
- Gripping too tightly
