When an opponent's dink or angle pulls you wide of the sideline, you can hit the ball around the outside of the net post. It does not need to clear the net, so the shot can stay low and be almost impossible to return.
The ATP needs a ball that is wide and low, and the patience to let it travel past the post before you hit it.
Key cues
- 1Let the ball come to you, wide of the post
- 2Stay low, hit flat and low
- 3Aim deep or at the far sideline
- 4Recover to the line immediately
Common mistakes
- Rushing the shot before it clears the post
- Hitting it into the net post
- Attempting it on balls that are not wide enough
