Stacking is a positioning trick that lets partners keep their preferred sides, usually so the stronger forehand is in the middle, or so a left-handed player is on the correct side, regardless of the score.
On the serve, both partners start on the same side; after the serve, the non-serving partner slides across. On the return, the returner's partner stands off the court beside the kitchen and steps in after the return.
Keys to remember
- Only the server and receiver have required positions
- Agree on signals or a fixed plan before the game
- Practice the switch until it is automatic
